Driftless Glen 7.5 Year Rye "Swisher Sweet", Whacked Out Whiskey Club Pick

A single barrel of Driftless Glen rye (75% rye, 25% malted barley) aged 7.5 years, picked by the Whacked Out Whiskey Club of Dallas, TX. Barrel #4735, which the club nicknamed "Swisher Sweet." Candy tobacco, cinnamon roasted nuts and Juicy Fruit.

The club's tasting notes

Written from a barrel sample pulled the day of selection. The club will update these once bottles arrive.

Appearance: Rich copper in color, oily tracing legs.

Nose: Fruit Stripe chewing gum, sweetened tobacco, cinnamon roasted almonds, maraschino cherries, dried currant.

Palate: Big Red and Juicy Fruit at the same time, apricot jelly, charred oak, tobacco, pepper.

Finish: The tobacco and oak linger for a while, tapering off into a slight peppermint that shows up nowhere else except on the tail of the finish.

Thoughts: Holy smokes. This is a fruit bomb, but balanced so well with a rich tobacco and oak presence that has this "creamy smoke" sort of pop in your mouth. "Swisher Sweet" is a banger 7.5 year rye.
