Caol Ila 12 Year is the core single malt from Caol Ila, the largest distillery on Islay, set on the Sound of Islay near Port Askaig. Bottled at 43% ABV, it is a medium-peated island malt in a lighter register than its southern-shore neighbors, pairing grassy smoke and brine with a sweet, oily malt character. Much of the distillery's output goes into blends, notably Johnnie Walker.
